Year 3
Puzzle flash cards for clever thinkers
For grown-ups: each round is 10 cards. The topics are gentle versions of 11+ question families —
number patterns, missing numbers, machines & symbol sums (maths / reasoning),
shape patterns & odd one out (non-verbal reasoning),
letter codes (verbal reasoning) and logic & Sudoku School (problem solving).
Every card explains the answer, so talk it through together. Start on Warm-up; Challenge stretches towards Year 4–5.
Year 1
Pick a game to play.
For grown-ups:Chess School builds up one piece at a time: names first, then how each piece moves, then "star hunts" where your child moves a piece to collect stars, and finally capturing. Phonics Flash follows the Read Write Inc. Book Bag Books: pick the book your child is reading and the app flashes words that use that book's focus sound. Each word shows for 5 seconds, or tap the card to move on. Encourage Fred Talk (sound it out) first, then read the whole word.
Chess School
Work through the stages in order. Each one teaches something new.
For grown-ups: Stages 1–2 are flash cards about the pieces. In Stages 3–8 your child moves a white piece around a real 8×8 board to collect stars ⭐ and capture black pieces. If they tap a square the piece can't reach, the board shows dots where it can go. Move on once they're getting 2–3 stars.
Phonics Flash
Choose the book you're reading. Tap a colour to see its books.
For grown-ups: books, colours and focus sounds follow the Read Write Inc. Book Bag Books list. The Red, Green and Purple books practise blending Set 1 sounds, so their cards are simple words to sound out. From Pink onwards, each card's focus sound is shown in orange. The word lists are our own, chosen to practise each sound; they are not taken from the books. Logical Learning is not affiliated with Read Write Inc. or Oxford University Press.
Tap the card to go to the next word.
🔲 Sudoku School
Work through the stages in order — each one adds a new skill.
For grown-ups: Stages 1–2 teach the core reasoning on flash cards. In Stages 3–4 your child fills a 4×4 grid on their own, with fewer clues each time. Stage 5 steps up to 6×6, and Stage 6 is a proper (easy) 9×9 Sudoku. Move on once they're getting 2–3 stars. Every puzzle can be solved without guessing, and the 💡 Hint button explains the next step.
